One of the main purposes of a nonprofit organization is to advocate for a particular social cause or point of view. Nonprofits that focus on the community are focused on providing services locally or globally. The hidden gem that nonprofits have is this: compelling stories. All nonprofits have a back story to them, and they have stories about who they serve and how those who are being served are benefiting from them. When you add a video which tells a story about a nonprofit you have gold. Sure, you can print a story and it has meaning and purpose, but when you wrap a story around particular individuals you have something very special. Stories that are told visually can create an emotional connection. Mental imagery is far more superior then auditory stories. Did you know that more than 70% of our brains are dedicated to visuals?
Nonprofits can really benefit from visual storytelling. All they need to do is pick out individuals that are willing to tell their story on camera. What I like to do is speak to the head of the organization on camera so that they can explain to the viewers what their nonprofit is about, who they serve, and why they do what they do. With the help and direction of the nonprofit, I interview some of the individuals who receive help or services from the nonprofit. This combination if done correctly, can provide a great story for the nonprofit. Now the nonprofit can place this video on their website or facebook page. You would be amazed on how well a heart-felt story can help explain the mission of a nonprofit. And when people understand what the nonprofit does for the community the more willing they are to provide them with financial support as well as mental support.
